I admit I passed by Bubble Pond for years, rarely stopping by to take any pictures. Then, during my first Acadia workshop in October 2018, I took a group of photographers there on a particularly still, quiet morning. The foliage was peaking, the water was completely still, the reflections were sublime… all the ingredients were there for the perfect photograph. It ended up being my favorite place of the whole workshop. After the other photographers went home, I visited again two or three days later on my own, hoping to find even more magic. But I was completely disappointed. A breeze stirred the water, eliminating all the reflections and the wind had blown most of the colorful leaves from the trees. I left without making a single image.
I returned to Bubble Pond last October on another very calm morning, before the sun had even come up. There was no one else there; I had it all to myself. I walked briskly along the trail bordering the pond and, through a gap in the trees, found this sight. The magic had returned. And– even better– a light mist hovered over the water, slowly sliding across the glassy surface.
I spent about three hours capturing one beautiful image after another, until the sun rose above the hills and killed the soft light of the early morning. I don’t know if I’ll ever see such beauty at Bubble Pond to top this, but I know I’ll be back to try.
Each week I’m featuring a different print at a discounted price in the 14-inch size. Prints are printed with archival pigment inks on 11x15” archival rag paper, but not framed. A 16x20 inch frame would fit the print perfectly, with the addition of a mat around the print, which is often included in when you purchase a frame. Also, any framing store would be able to cut a mat and frame the print for you.
FREE shipping anywhere in the contiguous US (sorry but international orders are not possible at this time due to the high cost of shipping and customs charges).
At the end of the week, this print will still be available, but at the full price.
